The Grand Ridge Indians Middle School football team will look to build on its first win of the season Tuesday night when they play host to Franklin at 6 p.m.
Grand Ridge lost its first three games of the season to Bonifay, Tolar, and Blountstown, but finally broke through last week with an overtime victory over Vernon.
The game was tied 6-6 at the end of regulation, but the Indians won it in overtime when Herschell Brown scored a touchdown from a yard out on 4th and goal after the Grand Ridge defense had stopped Vernon on the first possession of OT.
The Indians will look to make it two in a row against a district opponent in Franklin County.
“They run the same offense we run, so it is very familiar to us,” Grand Ridge coach Ken Granger said Monday. “They have a pretty good running back, so we have to key on him and contain him so we don’t get beat on the outside. Our offense has now started to run the way we want it to run, so we need to continue that.”
Granger said that while it has still been a tough season, the win last week helped ease some of the tension.
“The boys are having fun now,” the coach said. “We are still being plagued with injuries, so we are having to make adjustments every week. It gets a little difficult with consistency, but that’s the name of the game.”
After Tuesday's game, the Indians will finish on the road against Graceville on Oct. 11.
To beat Franklin, Granger said the formula was simple.
“Our game plan is to control the clock and have zero turnovers.”
