The Marianna High School Bulldogs soccer team was eliminated from postseason play Wednesday night at Arnold High School with an 8-0 loss to Pensacola Catholic in the district tournament.
The Bulldogs were coming off a 1-0 win on Monday night over Walton in the opening round of the tournament.
In Wednesday’s matchup, Marianna gained two players back from illness but were still without their veteran goalie Nick Harris and senior forward Caleb Corbin.
Marianna coach Garyn Waller went with sophomore Michael Mader in the goal, and senior defenders Sammy Muniz, Curt Stephens and Thomas Parrish in front of the goal.
Waller had Paul Gochenuar, JaeJung Hyun, Preston Skipper, Stevie Blanchette, John English, Ryan Rudd, Joseph Gibson and Alton Stone.
The first goal came off a Bulldog defender attempting to deflect the ball from the goal when it found the back of the net off his knee.
The Bulldogs picked up two penalties inside the box resulting in two goals from penalty kicks. At the half, the Bulldogs trailed 4-0.
Taking the field following the break, the Bulldogs kept the ball out of the goal utilizing fresh legs from the bench.
Brandon Massengill, Jake Daniels, Cody Collins, Jesse McGowan, and Seth Gilley rotated in and out giving relief to the starters.
The fifth goal came just after midway through the second half to make it 5-0.
Mader was taken out of the game with a busted lip and replaced by Gilley.
With the game at 6-0, Blanchette took over in the box. Goals seven and eight came with four minutes left in the game.
On the night, the Bulldogs had 11 attempts on goal but none were successful.
Mader allowed five goals on 14 attempts, while Gilley allowed one goal on two attempts. Blanchette had two goals on three attempts.
The Bulldogs ended their season 7-9-1 and a tie for third in the six-team district.
