An elderly woman fell victim to a scam Friday morning, Feb. 10, at the Marianna Walmart.
According to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was shopping with an infant when she was approached by middle-aged woman who offered to assist her. As they shopped, the middle-aged woman introduced the elderly victim to a second female in the store.
During a conversation, they shared with the victim that the second woman found a large sum of cash in the parking lot. The elderly woman was convinced by the other two that they would share the cash equally among the three.
To ensure each party showed good faith in the distribution of the cash, each reportedly agreed to provide upfront good-faith money.
One of the women rode with the elderly woman to her bank where she withdrew money from her account. The second woman followed in a separate vehicle. The press release states that they all returned to the store’s parking lot to divide the money.
The elderly woman allegedly gave the two females her share of the good-faith money. The two suspects kept all her money and drove away. Authorities report that one of the vehicles of the two suspects appears to be a late model gold Chevrolet Impala.
The sheriff’s office asks that anyone with knowledge to the identity of the suspects to call the sheriff’s office at 482-9648.
