Florida First Lady Ann Scott will be in Marianna reading to children today at Florida Caverns State Park. She is scheduled to read around 9 a.m. The visit is part of the Summer Literacy Adventure program the First Lady launched in May.

In the program, students are invited to pledge to read a certain number of books this summer. The school with the most participating students will be recognized during the 2011-12 school year, and the winning school will also get a free pass to any state park. Students can jain by visiting www.justreadflorida.com. 

At today’s event, Florida Caverns State Park Manager Chris Hawthorne and Florida Park Service Director Donald Forgione will highlight the Florida Caverns and the “adventurous opportunities” in the park, according to a press release about Scott’s visit.
