A Marianna woman is charged with grand theft, accused of stealing more than $2,000 from the fast food restaurant where she was a manager.
Ashley Chanate Brown, 23, was working at the McDonalds restaurant on Lafayette Street in Marianna when she allegedly failed to make a bank deposit she had been entrusted with in July 2009, according to the complaint filed against her.
According to the complaint, Brown prepared the deposit dated July 24 and left McDonald’s with it, saying she would put the money in the bank.
Brown claims she dropped it off in the night depository at Wachovia Bank.
But bank records show no evidence of the deposit, investigators say.
After being questioned by her superiors at McDonalds, Brown resigned.
Paperwork and surveillance video was forwarded to the state attorney’s office, which filed the charges earlier this month.
Brown was scheduled to leave jail on a conditional release Monday afternoon.
