Two out-of-state residents were arrested Friday after allegedly attacking a Marianna resident at the TA Travel Center outside Marianna.
Beavertown, Pa. resident Michael Patrick Underhill IV, 32, and Stafford, Va. resident Brett Tyler Jones, 19, were each charged with aggravated battery and defrauding a retail business. Underhill was additionally charged with criminal mischief.
The victim and his female companion were having a meal at the TA restaurant around 2:15 a.m. when Underhill and Jones started making comments about the victim’s companion, according to
Major Donnie Branch of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
In an effort to avoid trouble, the victim and the woman paid for their food and tried to leave, but Underhill and Jones followed them out, Branch said.
The men both allegedly struck the victim several times. Underhill also allegedly picked up a “nut-dispensing machine” and hit Oswald with it.
The victim suffered a bloody nose, as well as scrapes and bruises to the head and lower back, according to the complaint filed against Underhill and Jones. The victim’s shirt was also torn.
The attackers also left without paying for their meals, which came to $32.24 combined.
After the incident, Underhill and Jones were located at the American Best Value Inn and positively identified by the victim and his companion. The two were charged and taken to the county jail.
