A two-month-old boy was critically injured in an accident just before noon on Monday.
The identity of the child was not immediately released, and his city and state of residence was not clear in the initial Florida Highway Patrol report.
The driver in the one-vehicle accident was identified as Charlotte Allen, 47, of Cottondale.
According to the highway patrol, Allen was westbound on Family Court, a dirt road east of Sapp Road, when she became momentarily distracted and allowed the vehicle to drift on to the shoulder.
The front of the 1997 Mercury two-door struck a culvert and a dirt embankment. Allen received minor injuries in the crash. Both Allen and the child were taken to Southeast Alabama Medical Center for treatment.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the highway patrol.
