Newspapers In Education is a program in which teachers use the newspaper as a textbook in the classroom. The Jackson County Floridan runs a fully funded program that puts newspapers in the classroom at no cost to the teachers or the school district. Teachers use these papers and their components in many ways: to teach math, science, social studies, language arts, PE, art, statistics, economics - any subject. We provide newspapers to elementary through high school, public, private and alternative schools, as many as we can get funding for. The illiteracy rate in Jackson County is very high and this is one way we can all help deal with the issues related to educating readers starting at an early age. With your help, the Newspaper in Education Program will continue to be succesful in Jackson County.
