Sneads cruises to win
MALONE — The Sneads AAA All-Stars poured in 11 first-inning runs Friday night and cruised to a 12-0 win over Quincy in the opening round of the District 5 Tournament.
Josh Baxley pitched all four innings to get the win for Sneads, allowing no hits, two walks and striking out 10.
Baxley was brilliant, but he had plenty of margin for error after Sneads’ offensive outburst in the first.
Quincy’s Ronnie Smith started on the mound but had trouble finding the plate, walking seven and hitting another in the first inning alone.
He was pulled in favor of Isiah Trujillo, but the damage had already been done with Quincy trailing 10-0.
Brian Hamilton led off the game with a single to right field and came around to score on a fielder’s choice to make it 1-0. Caleb Peel walked and scored on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk to Tyler Lawrence brought Dylan Catalfano to the plate for a 3-0 lead.
A walk to Caleb Reed scored Baxley and another walk to Dakota Hosey scored Austin Tyus for a 5-0 advantage.
After Lawrence scored on a wild pitch, two more walks were issued to Clay Robbirds and Dashielle Bassett to bring Reed home for the seventh run.
Hamilton came back up to the plate and hit a two-run single up the middle to give Sneads a 9-0 lead.
After Bassett scored on a wild pitch, three straight walks brought Hamilton to the plate for the final run of the inning.
Trujillo settled in after the first and was solid over the next three innings, striking out six, but the hole was too deep for Quincy to climb out.
Sneads scored its final run in the third inning when Peel walked and came around to score on a ground ball by Catalfano.
Sneads next plays Monday at 7:30 p.m. With a win Monday, Sneads would take on Altha Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
