Sneads AAA eliminated
The Sneads AAA All-Stars were eliminated from the District 5 Tournament in Malone Tuesday night, falling to Havana 12-1.
It was the second straight loss for Sneads in the double-elimination tournament, after taking a 12-0 opening-day win over Quincy on Friday.
On Tuesday, it was a 10-run third inning by Havana that spelled doom for Sneads. The offensive burst blew open a 2-1 game, with neither team scoring afterward.
“We had one bad inning and that did us in,” Sneads coach Tony Reed said. “Our pitching was a little thin there, and we had one really bad inning that was too much to overcome.”
Havana broke it open with a bases-loaded triple, and added some cushion to the lead with some help from Sneads.
“It was a little bit of everything,” Reed said of Havana’s offensive onslaught in the third. “They had some hits, we had a couple of fielding errors, there were some
walks ... it was just sort of a meltdown in the third.”
Sneads’ first-round win put it in the winners’ bracket against Blountstown, but Sneads suffered a 12-2 loss to fall into the losers’ bracket Tuesday.
However, Reed said he wasn’t discouraged by what his team did during the tournament.
“We’ve actually got a pretty young team. We’ve got most of those kids back next year, including our top two pitchers,” he said. “I really figured going into (the tournament) that we were about middle of the road and that’s where we wound up. Four teams went home before us, so it was a pretty good season.”
