Outlaws win in Donalsonville tourney

The Marianna Outlaws traveled to Donalsonville, Ga. this past weekend and came away with the top prize, first place in the 11-and-under division. The Outlaws outscored their opponents 45-20 in five games, dropping only one game in the tournament.

In Game One, the Outlaws handed the Wiregrass Titans an 8-6 loss behind the pitching of Derek Eberly and Trace Head. Eberly started on the mound, but gave it up to Head in the first inning, with Head holding the Titans to just one run in the second inning.

Leading the Outlaws offensively in Game One were Eberly and Head, who were both 2-for-2 with a walk, followed by Micah McCaskill, who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Daniel Floyd, Cody Barfield and Matthew Shouse were all 1-for-2, with Jared Hendrix and Hunter Eddins both going 1-for-3. Jake Daffin and Floyd both had RBI sacrifices.

In Game Two, the Columbus Young Guns handed the Outlaws a 9-2 loss. Head got the nod on the mound for the Outlaws, going three innings and giving up three runs on one hit, one walk and two costly errors. Barfield came on in the fourth, giving up four runs on two walks, one hit batsman and one error, before Eddins closed out the final inning, giving up two runs on two hits and one walk.

At the plate, Head was 2-for-2 with one run scored, followed by Floyd, who was 2-for-2. Eddins, Jared Hendrix and Shelby Savell all had singles.

The Outlaws rebounded in Game Three to dish out a 12-1 thrashing of the Blakely Jaguars. Micah McCaskill went the distance for the Outlaws, giving up the one run while striking out seven in five innings of play.

Offensively, the Outlaws were led by Eberly, who was 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, followed by McCaskill, who was 2-for-3. Head was 1-for-1 with two walks, while Austin Torbett, Floyd, Shouse, Hendrix, Daffin and Savell all were 1-for-2.

In Game Four, it was the Outlaws over the Panama City Beach Blast, 12-3, behind the pitching of Shelby Savell. Savell went the distance, allowing just three runs on five hits and three walks through four innings of play.

Eberly was 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored, followed by Head, who was 2-for-2 with an RBI sacrifice and two runs scored. Shouse was 1-for-1 with two walks and a run scored, followed by Eddins and McCaskill, who were both 1-for-2. Hendrix had a hit, while Daffin had an RBI sacrifice and took one for the team with a run scored.

The championship game was all Marianna Outlaws, with a solid 11-2 victory over the Walton County Marlins. Daniel Floyd threw a complete game for the Outlaws and picked up the win, giving up two runs on one hit, two errors and one walk through five innings.

Floyd helped himself out at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored, followed by McCaskill and Daffin who were both 2-for-3, each with an RBI. Eddins, Head, and Torbett all had a hit ,with Torbett adding a walk and Savell being issued two walks.

The Outlaws will take their game on the road next weekend as they try for two in a row at tournament play in Dothan, Ala.
