The Marianna Dixie Youth AAA All Stars picked up their second victory in as many attempts Saturday night in Vernon, with a 22-2 victory over the Cottondale AAA All Stars.

Cody Gwin got the start on the mound for Marianna. He faced three batters, before being relieved by Maxx Harrell for two innings. Landon Tharpe came on in the third and final inning to close out the game.

The Marianna pitchers allowed two runs on no hits, issued five walks and struck out four batters in three innings.

Cottondale plated both their runs in the first inning on walks to Gates, Gramling and Houston, with Gates and Gramling scoring.

In their half of the first inning, Marianna scored 11 runs. Seth Gilmore got things going with a walk, and moved to third when Cody Gwin bounced one over the fence for a ground-ruled double.

Following a strikeout to Tharpe, Harrell plated two runs on a single, with Ryan Reed and Cameron Gray following with back-to-back singles to score Harrell. Dalton Smith picked up a pair of RBI on a stand-up triple. He scored on a single by Kiley Bryan.

Lance Long added a single, and Will Nance took advantage of a bobbled ball at second to reach first safely and pick up an RBI. Will Johnson singled, and Hunter Mitchell reached on a misplayed ball at third with another pair of runs scoring.

Gilmore, batting for the second time in the inning, took one for the team; Gwin singled in his second at bat. Tharpe flew out to third and Harrell drew a walk. Reed hit into a fielder’s choice to end the inning with the score 11-2 Marianna.

Marianna added seven runs in the second inning. Gwin put the crowd on its feet when he had an inside the park home run that scored Gilmore, who had reached on a single. Tharpe, Harrell, Gray and Bryan all had singles in the inning, with Lance Long reaching on an error at third, and with walks going to Reed and Smith.

Marianna ended the game in the third inning after plating four runs. Harrell doubled, Nance singled, and Gray and Reed drew walks. Gwin took one for the team and Gilmore reached on an error at second.

The Marianna All Stars were scheduled to take on Graceville Monday night. Both teams are 2-0 going into Monday night’s contest.
