The Marianna Dixie Belles softball team sailed to a 16-6 victory over Franklin County in the first game of the district tournament at Optimist Park.

Jennifer Hewett took the mound for the Marianna Belles, going four innings, before giving way to Faith Moore, who closed out the final inning.

Marianna plated one run in the top of the first inning before their bats came alive in the second inning. Five runs scored in the second, with nine runs being added in the third inning.

One run scored in the fourth inning.

Leading Marianna in runs was Jordan Hussey with three runs, while Moore, Declouet, Ann Renegar and Danielle Mitchell all plated two runs each. On the board with one run were Hewett, Patrea Clark, Hailey Tew, Brittany Marley and Morgan Stephens.

Franklin County plated four runs in the second inning and added two in the fourth. But they could not muster a run in the fifth and final innings, ending the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

With just two teams in the Belles division, a win on Tuesday evening would give Marianna the district championship and a chance to compete for a state championship.

Results of the game Tuesday night were not available at press time.
