Marianna Angels roll by Blountstown

The Marianna Dixie Angels softball team moved closer to a district championship Wednesday night with a solid 18-1 win over the Blountstown Angels.
Bonnie Bigale went two innings for Marianna, allowed one run on one hit, with one error and one walk while striking out five.
Sydnee Goodson came on for the final two innings and retired the six batters she faced in order, striking out three with a double play ball in the third inning erasing the only base runner allowed.
A pop up to Goodson on the mound was caught and a throw to first got the runner before she returned to tag the bag.
In the top of the first inning, Valerie Sims led off with a triple. With one out, walks to Delaney Basford and Bonnie Bigale loaded the bases for Baylee Childs’ inside the park grand slam to give Marianna a 4-0 lead.
Carlee Wilson took advantage of a dropped ball in centerfield to make it to third and a walk to Kayleigh Bruner put runners on the corners, but two strikeouts ended the inning.
In the second inning, Marianna continued their scoring frenzy. Salena Ubias and Amy Gerehart both drew walks with Anslyn Carter taking one for the team to load the bases.
Sims picked up an RBI when she drew a walk and Goodson helped herself out with a three-RBI single.
Basford and Bigale singled and Childs drew a walk to load the bases. Wilson singled home two but was called out trying for second. A ground out ended the inning.
Konnor Johnson got things going in the third inning when she drew a walk and Allyson Cannady took one for the team.
Walks to Ubias, Gerehart and Carter plated two runs before Sims cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple.
Walks to Goodson, Basford, and Bigale plated a run and a single by Childs plated another.
With two outs, Bruner walked but a strikeout ended the inning.
With the Blountstown side retired in order in the top of the fourth, the game was called on the mercy rule.
Marianna is scheduled to take on the winner of Sneads and Blountstown on Friday night for the district championship.
