The Marianna High School Lady Bulldogs volleyball team made it a Senior Night to remember Thursday before a crowd of fans, parents and classmates. The Lady Dogs had to go to five games to pick up the match win over Walton.
Prior to the start of the varsity match, six seniors were honored for their play as Lady Bulldogs. Tiffany Lawrence and Alexandra Sanchez have been Lady Bulldogs for four years, while Kayla Pittman and Hannah Shouppe have been there for three years. Sharhae Williams and Christina Wynn have been members of the team for two years.
The first two games were all Walton, with Marianna losing 25-14 in the first and 25-18 in the second. Marianna bounced back in Game Three, dominating with a 25-16 win. Marianna led from the opening play of the third game, with the Lady Braves managing only to tie the Lady Dogs, but never gain a lead. Tiffany Lawrence went to the serve line with the game tied at three, and left with a 7-3 lead.
Michelle Bassin added three points to make it a 17-9, game before Cayce Griffin added a couple of service points. Eron Milton sealed the win with a tip over to end the game.
In the fourth game, the Lady Bulldogs controlled throughout and picked up the 25-13 win to force a game five. Game Five gave the crowd its money’s worth, with the game going into triple overtime before Marianna pulled out the 18-16 win.
Marianna never trailed in the final game, but Walton forced 11 ties before Marianna was able to put together two straight serves behind Meagan Hinson at the serve line.
Following the victory, the Lady Bulldogs, families, friends and school personnel were treated to a reception honoring the six seniors.
Marianna was scheduled to be on the road Monday evening at Chipley for their last regular season game before moving into district competition.
