CC set for home debut in Classic

The Chipola College men’s and women’s basketball teams open their regular seasons tonight in the Milton H. Johnson Classic.

Game schedules for the classic have changed due to illness affecting two of the visiting teams.

Tonight’s lineup features the Gulf Coast women and Monroe (NY) at 1 p.m.

The Lady Indians play Monroe at 5 p.m. The Indians face L.B. Wallace at 7 p.m. 

Only one game is on tap for Saturday, with the Gulf Coast women playing Monroe at 1 p.m.

Neither Chipola team will play on Saturday.

The Lady Indians host the annual Alzheimer’s Classic, Nov. 13-15, in the Johnson Center.

Chipola plays Monroe Nov. 13, at 6 p.m., Jefferson (MO), Nov. 14, at 6 p.m, then Trinity Valley (TX) at 2 p.m. on Nov. 15.

The Lady Indians are ranked second in the FCCAA Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

The Lady Indians are third in the NJCAA National poll. Gulf Coast is seventh. NW Florida is the only other Florida team in the poll at No. 22.

The Indians are ranked No. 5 in the FCCAA Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll, and ranked No. 13 in the NJCAA National preseason poll.

Central Florida is first. TCC is the only other Florida team in the national poll at No. 7
