The Marianna High School Lady Bulldogs head into district action tonight as the number three seed out of six spots. Pensacola Catholic dominated the district this year and holds the number one spot, followed by Arnold at number two.
Taking fifth in the district was Walton, with Chipley finishing sixth. Bay High School is hosting the district tournament this year.
Tuesday night’s first game will have Walton facing off against Bay at 5 p.m., with Marianna taking on Chipley at 6 p.m. With a win Tuesday night, Marianna will play Arnold at 5 p.m. Wednesday, while the winner of the first Tuesday game will take on Pensacola Catholic at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The winners of Wednesday’s matchups will play for the district championship on Thursday at 5 p.m. All games will be held at Bay High School.
Marianna enters the tournament with a 3-2 district record and 10-8 overall season record. Coach Belinda Christopher is in her third consecutive year as the Lady Dogs head coach and is optimistic about her team’s chances.
“Our last game of the season was simply awesome, we were down two straight games, had to battle back to win three in a row and we did it,” Christopher said. ” The final game went into overtime and the girls never gave up. Having lost five starters to graduation last year, we had a lot of work to do but the girls worked very hard all summer and it has shown on the court.”
