Marianna defeats Chipley in four

Marianna’s Cayce Griffin returns a serve against Chipley. The Lady Bulldogs beat Chipley in four games.

The Marianna High Lady Bulldogs defeated Chipley in four games Thursday night at the Marianna High School gym. Marianna came out solid to take the first game 25-18, before falling in the second 25-12. The Lady Bulldogs regrouped and put together back-to-back wins of 25-20 and 25-19 to take the match.
The junior varsity squad fell in two games, losing Game One 25-19 and Game Two 25-15.
The freshman team won in dramatic fashion, taking the first game 25-24 in overtime before falling 25-11, and picking up an overtime win in Game Three 18-16.
Leading the varsity against Chipley was Michelle Bassin with 18 serves with two aces, followed by Tiffany Lawrence with 15 serves and four aces. Cayce Griffin was on board with 15 serves, two aces, followed by Meaghan Hinson with 14 serves and three aces. Eron Milton recorded 12 serves with three aces.
Ciara Ham led the Lady Dogs in spikes with 13 and five kills, followed by Bassin with 13 spikes and three kills. Hinson was on the board with 11 spikes and three kills, with Sharnhae Williams picking up seven spikes and four kills. Williams had six blocks, followed by Milton with two.
The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to host Holmes County Monday evening. Results of that game were not available at press time.
