The Marianna Dixie Youth AA American League All-Stars have been selected and are ready to take the field in their bid for a district championship.

With the rain and weather knocking out two teams in a four-team tournament, it was the Marianna Stars who walked away with first place in Grand Ridge this past weekend, with an 11-5 win in six innings in Game One and 14-0 in Game Two.

The mayor of Marianna was arrested and charged with boating under the influence Saturday evening and spent some time in the county jail that night before being released on the order of a judge.

Marianna opened its summer baseball program Monday afternoon at Bulldog Field with doubleheader action against Freeport.

The Marianna High School Lady Bulldogs closed out their season with a banquet at St. Luke’s Episcopal Parish Hall Wednesday evening. Players, coaches, parents and friends gathered to honor the 2009 varsity and junior varsity softball teams.

The Grand Ridge Lady Indians are the Tri-County Middle School Conference champions. They handed Marianna and Vernon middle schools back-to-back losses on Thursday in Grand Ridge.

The Marianna Middle School Lady Bullpups volleyball team completed their regular season play Monday afternoon on the road at Grand Ridge. Both the “A” and “B” teams fell to the more experienced Lady Indians.

The Cottondale, Graceville, Sneads and Marianna track teams all placed individuals in the state track meet after performances in the regional meet last weekend in Tallahassee.

By 35 votes, Marianna Mayor James Wise was re-elected to the Marianna City Commission Tuesday, based on unofficial results for the city’s election.

The Marianna High School Bulldogs baseball team went 1-and-1 in games this past weekend. They notched a solid 14-2 road win over Bozeman Thursday night, before returning home to drop a 13-8 game against Northview of Dothan, Ala. Saturday.

Marianna police say they arrested a man Friday after he failed to return a car he had taken for a “test drive” and was found passed out in the driver’s seat.

The Marianna High School Bulldogs split games on Saturday at Bulldog Field, to go 2-1 in tournament play over two days. After defeating the Bleckley County (Ga.) Royals 10-3 Saturday morning, the Bulldogs fell to Liberty County 10-6 in the final game of the tournament.
