The Marianna High School volleyball team hosted a Junior Varsity and Freshmen Tri-Match Saturday, with two county teams competing for the top spot. Teams from Cottondale and Sneads battled against each other, and Marianna.

The Marianna High School Lady Bulldogs volleyball team traveled to Panama City this weekend, to participate in the 2009 Panhandle Fall Volleyball Classic at Mosley High School.

With the start of the 2009-2010 soccer season approaching, Marianna High School coach Garyn Waller has his squad readying for the new season with summer games against Panhandle teams, to get a preview of what he can expect.

The Marianna High School gym was the setting for yet another “next level” training for high school volleyball players. Marianna volleyball coach Belinda Christopher invited 33 girls to a three-day camp that concluded Saturday. The girls reported at 9 a.m. every day and were drilled for six hours, their day ending at 3 p.m.

The 2009 Marianna High School Bulldog baseball team lost six players to graduation this year. Those six played a huge part in winning the district champion in 2008, and winning district runners-up this past school year. Each of those players held a separate distinction off the field as well. They were all honor graduates in their graduating class.

Summer volleyball concluded Tuesday evening at Marianna High School with four teams in action, three of them from Jackson County.

Former 2008 Marianna High School graduate Alexandra “Alex” Christopher has taken a giant step towards achieving her life-long dream of becoming an Olympic gymnast. In August of this year, Christopher will step into the arena as an Auburn gymnast.

The Marianna Dixie Boys All-Stars remain alive in state competition, after defeating Bartow 5-2 at Optimist Park on Monday morning. Marianna fell in state play Sunday 5-3 to a stubborn Spring Hill team.

The Marianna Junior Dixie Boys All-Stars lost a nail biter Saturday in the opening round of state tournament play at Optimist Park. Okeechobee walked off the field with the 5-4 win over Marianna.

Steve DeWitt has been named the new Marianna High School football coach, replacing Rob Armstrong, who accepted the Chipley job July 9 after serving as the Bulldogs head coach for two years.

Malone’s Jackson Reddish pitched a complete game shutout on Sunday, striking out nine and giving up only four hits and two walks to lead Malone past Marianna 7-0.

Marianna High School’s Janna Hinson signed on the dotted line Monday afternoon before teammates, family, friends, coaches and faculty, to continue playing volleyball for the next two years.

The Marianna Dixie Angels softball team moved closer to a district championship Wednesday night with a solid 18-1 win over the Blountstown Angels. 

The Marianna AAA All-Stars defeated Graceville 3-2 Wednesday night in Vernon to win the district championship and advance to state.
