City approves list for water line improvement

The Marianna City Commission on Monday selected a contractor to replace water lines, and to patch or resurface the roads that will have to be torn up to get at those lines.
I-C Contractors of Panama City won the job, submitting a low bid of roughly $3.8 million.
Of that total, $2.6 million will be paid from grant funds. The city will dip into its reserves to pay the rest.
When bids came in lower than expected, the original list of water line replacements was expanded to do more than officials first thought possible.
The work is expected to begin in late October or early November, and should be complete 270 days from start up. The contractor will do the work in three to four groups at a time, so as not to disrupt traffic across a large area of town at once.
Some of the targeted water lines are decades old.
The areas are:
• Clinton Street, from Madison to Noland.
• English Road, from Penn Avenue to the end of English.
• Orange Street from South St. to Cottondale Road.
• Caledonia Street, from Kelson Avenue to Clinton Street.
• Heatrice Street from Madison Avenue to St. Johns Street.
• Jackson Street from Caledonia to McPhearson streets.
• Bertram Street from Franklin to Marion streets.
• Elm Street from Orange to Hawk streets.
• Dickson Street from Kelson Avenue to Kelley Street.
• Magnolia Street from North Street to U.S. Highway 90.
• Madison Street from Kelson Avenue to Clinton Street.
• Yost. Street from Harley Drive to Milton Avenue.
• Guyton Street from Kelson Avenue to U.S. 90.
• Sylvia Drive, from Wilton to Wynn streets.
• Noland Street from Clinton Street to U.S. 90.
• Daniels Street from U.S. 90 to Wilton Street.
• Jackson Street from U.S. 90 to Madison Street.
• Park Street from Lime to Putnam Street.
• North Street from Magnolia to Bump Nose Road.
• Hall Street from Sunset Drive to U.S. 90.
• Spring Street from Davis to Putnam streets.
• Florence Avenue from Caledonia to Wynn streets.

• Auction Drive from the west end to past the first turn in the road.
• Green Street from Jackson to Franklin streets.
• Dogwood Street from Davis Street to U.S. 90.
• Riverview Road, from Kelson Avenue to River Road.
• 5th Avenue from 4th to 6th streets.
• 7th Avenue from 5th to College streets.
• Graves Street from Yost Street to Cottondale Road.
• Deering Street from Caledonia to Jefferson streets.
• Deering Street from from Caledonia to Dickson streets.
• Miltonia Street from Pearl Street to the south end of the road.
• Woodward Street from Lidden to Stone streets.
• Charles Drive, from Hall to Byron streets.
• Edgewood Drive, from one end of Sunset to the other.
Some of the 13 roads, which are to be patched after the line replacement rather than being completely resurfaced, may eventually be repaved later through a separate USDA loan.
