Representatives need a reminder

Dear editor,
After long deliberation on the health care issue, I have come to the conclusion that Rep. Allen Boyd and Sen. Bill Nelson should know that any government, whether it be the federal government or state government, has no place within health care, and especially insurance.
By this, I mean that they, better than most, have some sort of idea of just how the state of Florida has fared with homeowners insurance and the interference of the government.
It is an absolute mess. Insurance companies are leaving the state, leaving fewer and fewer choices, and the companies that are left will raise premiums. The ones that are left may or may not have the assets to weather a Katrina or an Andrew.
It is my opinion that the same is about to happen to health insurance in America. Fewer companies equals rising premiums. Or, we will be forced to be insured by the federal government. I am not looking forward to this.
I beg each of them in Washington to simply read the Constitution. I had to read it in high school and have a basic understanding. Nowhere does it say the government has any right to any of this. All of them have overstepped their bounds in this issue. You do not have the right to interfere with my health care.
They also have no right to give my tax money to the auto industry, or the banking industry, or the unions — and the list goes on and on. Some on this list I agree with, but I do realize that we can no longer afford or fund these activities. Any business-minded person would realize this. A worthy cause does not make it sustainable. There have been so many back room deals made in Washington that our representatives and their colleagues have bankrupted the greatest county on Earth.
I believe that there is only one way to correct this situation. This process is called term limits. I do realize that every decision made in Washington is slanted towards re-election.
It appears to me that the American people need to protect all of our representatives in Washington from themselves. Simply limiting the amount of time they spend in Washington will do that. Just think; they won’t have to worry about re-election. Thus, they can vote their conscience, instead of calculating how they will vote based on the next election. They assume that we have short memories.
I must say that I am very disappointed in their activities in Washington. It seems that all they care to do is bring home the pork, and that makes it all better, so re-elect them. The Congress of the United States has given the pork away to the point that there are no more pigs left. Somewhere in the deal they have to raise more pigs, not just come to my door and steal my bacon; all in the name of government.
I have noticed the amount of money that has come into the area: Tyndall Air Force Base, the new Marianna fire truck, several sidewalk projects, and the list goes on. All of these are worthy causes but before you can give it, you had to take it from someone else. Would they still do it if there were term limits?
Just in case they have not realized it, this country is broke. Mostly because of the staggering ineptitude in Washington. Do not even get me started on cap and trade, or whatever their colleagues are trying to change the name to in an obvious attempt to confuse their constituents. And there are many, many more such instances.
I would respect them much more if their votes would reflect them as an American first. Not as a Democrat, Republican, Independent, Methodist, Buddhist, Catholic or Baptist. If they are worth their salt, the people of the great state of Florida and the 2nd Congressional District will certainly re-elect an official that does the right thing on its own merits, without regard to future employment. Both of them appear to be following directions perfectly from the party and the “leaders” in Washington. However, none of them have realized that the days of the population blindly following are over.
