The home of a Jackson County couple was destroyed by fire Saturday.
The trailer, located on Festus Lane near Compass Lake, was already burned to the ground by the time firefighters were notified, according to Jackson County Fire Rescue Chief Tony Wesley.
JCFR and the Alford fire department responded to cool the rubble. Festus Lane is located off Pike Pond Road.
Wesley said Celeste Walsingham found the home destroyed when she returned from visiting her husband in an area hospital. Wesley said Mr. Walsingham, whose first name he did not know, had been stricken with a heart attack the night before the fire.
Firefighters were dispatched to the dwelling around 8:22 a.m. Saturday, Wesley said. Its cause has not yet been determined, and the state fire marshal is in charge of the standard fire investigation.
The area Red Cross Disaster Action Team responded to assist the couple, according to Red Cross representative Bob Pearce.
