Some registered voters are worried over a few rumors about election day requirements, but Jackson County’s Supervisor of Elections says there’s no need for concern.
“They’re just rumors,” said Jackson County SOE Sylvia Stephens.
The General Election is set for Nov. 4, with early voting scheduled for Oct. 20 through Nov. 1, 2008.
One concern was over whether voters could wear their campaign gear when they arrive at the polls.
“A voter may wear any T-shirt or button with campaign material as long as when they come to vote and they are in line they don’t tell others in line how to vote. Just get in line, vote and leave withuot campaiging to others it it will be fine,” said Stephens.
Another rumor going around is that a voter will not be allowed to vote if the address on their driver’s license does not match the adress on their voter registration card.
Not true, said Stephens.
“When a person votes they have to present a valid signature and picture ID.This is only to confirm the voter’s identity, not to verify a number or address,” said Stephens.
So, said Stephens, if a voter’s address on their driver’s license does not match the address on their voter registration card, that voter will simply be given directions to the polling location that matches their most current address.
As long as he or she is registered, the voter will still be allowed to vote, she said.
Anyone who has yet to register may still do so until Oct. 6, said Stephens.
“In a general election, party affiliation will not matter. Anyone can vote democrat or republican,” said Stephens.
