The Jackson County Supervisor of Elections Office announced unofficial absentee and early voting totals at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

If these totals are any indication of the final outcome of the primary election, it’s going to be a close count for the county commission district 5 seat.

So far, democratic candidates   for county commission dist. 5 are close in their number of votes, with J. Milton Pittman holding 318 votes and his opponent Kenneth Stephens at 302 votes.

County commission dist. 5 republican candidate Jerry Neel has 88 votes so far, and Ben Howard Odom has 118.

A combination of absentee and early votes brings an unofficial count for sheriff candidates, as well; with Lou Roberts well in the lead holding 47.4 percent of the votes so far.

Running as democrats, Charles “Chucky” Anderson has 192 votes, John Dennis has 349, Aldrich D. Johnson Sr. has 51 votes, Lou Roberts has 1,221 votes, Robbie Wester has 341 votes, and Darryl Williams has 421.

Of the republican candidates for sheriff, Jim Peacock leads with 61.3 percent of the votes so far.

Republican candidate Peter “Sonny” Fortunato Jr. has 305 votes so far, and his opponent Jim Peacock has 485.

In the race for superintendent of schools, democratic candidate Lee Miller is in the lead with 56.9 percent of the vote over incumbent Daniel “Danny” Sims.

Miller so far has 1,447 votes and Sims has 1,092.

The race for school board district 2 is close for now, with Nancy G. Deese holding 205 votes and Kenneth “Kenny”  Griffin 385.

The vote count for school board district 3 shows more of a difference between candidates, with incumbent Betty Duffee leading with 80.3 percent of the votes so far. Duffee holds 677 votes and opponent Horacio ‘Doc” Rodriguez has 166.

The republican race for State Rep. Dist. 5 has Brad Drake holding 136 votes, and Sherry Campbell holding 98 votes so far. The winner of the two will face off against democrat John P. McDaniel in the November general election.

Republican Mark Mulligan leads in the US Congress Dist. 2 race so far, with 496 votes. Eddie Hendry has 197 so far. Tonight’s winner will go up against incumbent democrat Allen Boyd in November.

These are unofficial totals of absentee and early votes, with provisional votes to be counted tomorrow.

With 15 out of 25 precincts reporting so far, unofficial totals for the Jackson County primaries are as follows:
