Two arrested on drug charges

Two people were detained in separate and unrelated drug busts Thursday, according to a news release from the Jackson County Drug Task Force.
Fredrick Holton, 35, of Maybell Lane near Greenwood was arrested after an ongoing, long-term investigation into the sale of cocaine and marijuana in Jackson County.
Holton was booked into the Jackson County jail, charged with five counts of sale of a controlled substance-cocaine.
Investigators with the Jackson County Drug Task Force also arrested Daniel Leal, 46, of Donalsonville, Ga., Thursday. According to the news release, Leal he had arranged a drug transaction with an investigator posing as a drug dealer. Leal traveled to the intersection of Highway 71 and Basswood Road, allegedly to purchase crack cocaine.
Investigators were there waiting, and Leal was arrested for the attempted purchase of crack cocaine. Leal was also allegedly found to be in possession of a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine, and was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Leal was transported to the Jackson County jail.
