OCD Body Art has moved from its original location on Lafayette Street to Plaza Del Rio at 2944 Penn Ave., Suite J.
Denise Harrell, owner of the Marianna business, said she re-located in an effort to “appease members of the community who objected” to its presence in the city’s historic district for little more than a month.
A woman who lives in the area where the shop first located approached the Marianna City Commission about a week after the shop opened, saying she didn’t think it was a good fit for that part of town.
The city had already approved the business, however, and commissioners said they’d look into it but doubted that there was anything they could do about it. They did, however, agree to look into some changes to the historic district’s zoning regulations.
Meanwhile, Harrell decided to move of her own accord as a show of good will, she said.
“It was not a forced move, we did it because we didn’t want an uproar or cause a conflict in the community whatsoever,” Harrell said. “We’d only been there a week when all this controversy started, and never wanted anything like that to be a factor.”
Moving, she said, was a sacrifice, but one she was willing to make.
“We were without phone service for three days, so we lost some business days there, and some people think we’ve closed so that’s probably some lost revenue, but I just wanted the community to know it’s not run by shady characters.”
Harrell said nothing could be farther from the truth.
“We’re family-oriented, and I wanted to show our decency, the kind of people we are. My husband is a retired federal officer, and I have 20 years in the medical field, managing doctors offices, and I’m still employed by an outpatient surgery center in Alabama, so we’re not some fly-by-night operation,” she said.
“This gives my husband something he can physically do, because he can no longer do his federal job because of a physical disability. ... We’re a quality operation, we’re quality people who just want to operate our business.”
The shop is open Mondays to Saturdays, and is closed on Sundays, the same hours it had in the Lafayette Street location.

I heard through the grapevine that a strip-joint was opening in Historic district BUT not FULL nudity.
I have gained a huge amount of respect for the owners of the OCD. I am not particulary fond of “tats” though I have 3 from a past life, but I applaude the respect for the community and residents shown in the move. I think it is also good business, with strip malls being at under 50% occupancy for the most part leases should be competitive and parking less of a hassle.
OCD well done, common sense and business sense prevail. You deserve recognition from the BBB and Chamber of Commerce. Thank you.
CAMERALADY…I bet ‘YOU’ would support that greasy “BOY” in Arkansas that raped & murdered the News Anchor woman & got nothing but life in prison! He needs ‘EXACTLY’ what claude neal got! Decent women don’t want ANYTHING to do with the greasiness of…‘them!‘
Why not commend them for opening a legit facility rather than running some backroom operation. At least they have followed all requirements and have done everything right. We know they’ll be paying taxes like everyone else. If your gonna complain, say something about those that come here free, live free, open a business free, don’t have to pay taxes on the business and get Medicaid and food-stamps while their here. When their 5 years run out, they bring a brother over, sign the business to him and he gets everything free. While born and bred citizens open a business, have to jump through hoops to become established, pay more then they earn in taxes, and then have to deal with crap from the neighbors cause they don’t think it “fits in” this area. At least they speak english.
It’s kind of funny, when it was on the “better” part of town, it was a problem. Now that it is over here near the hood, it’s all good. No more complaining now that it’s not visible from their front door. I’m guessing the complainers don’t realize that there are a billion more important things going on in this world than a tattoo shop opening. Don’t they know that a 5 year old was found dead after being sold for sex and just recently a 7 month old was missing for days? As long as it isn’t in their neighborhood, it’s okay. Pull your heads out of the suburbs and take a look at the world around you…too much is going on to be worried about something so small as a location of someone else’s business.
Erik nailed it. This community refuses to allow anything to come in.
You only have free rights in Marianna if you conform to what the powers that be think is right. You know the type the kind that look at you funny if you visit their church on Sunday.Thing about it is that most of them leave church and head to the nearest bingo hall.

i bet that the folks that don’t like the tattoo place, ALL wear granny panties!“
Normally, I wouldn’t agree with you because I typically don’t, but that comment was AWESOME…lol.
That proves to everyone that there is no such thing as a FREE MARKET.
This is not an illegal business, yet they can run them out if the ELITE does not like it
One small business owner to another - welcome and best of luck. Hopefully, the worst is behind you and nothing but profit ahead.
