A local man who spent nearly a year in prison for a sex crime against an underage victim is again accused of a sex offense against a juvenile.
Kevin Chambliss, 34, is charged with lewd and lascivious molestation on a child under 16 years of age, according to a press release Monday from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
As of late Monday afternoon, Chambliss was being held in the Jackson County jail on a $52,000 bond.
According to the sheriff’s office, Chambliss is accused of molesting a 15-year-old girl Sunday morning at a location on Timberlane Road in the Bascom area.
The press released did not specify the type of contact alleged by the girl.
Authorities say the alleged victim got in a vehicle that day with some friends and with Chambliss, whom she did not know, and that the parties went to 6737 Timberlane Road.
After the alleged incident on Timberlane,  the girl was taken back to where she had been picked up, authorities said.
In making her report to authorities, she described a truck connected with the incident. Chambliss was behind the wheel of a vehicle pulled over by a law enforcement officer in Marianna later Sunday, based on Chambliss’ vehicle matching the description given by the girl.
Chambliss was initially taken into custody on a drug charge after a canine alerted on the vehicle. Charged first with possession of marijuana, he was subsequently identified as a suspect in the alleged molestation case.
According to the state Department of Corrections Web site, Chambliss was released from Putnam Correction Institution in 2005 after serving almost a year for having sexual contact with someone under 18 years of age.
On his release from prison, Chambliss gave authorities his address as being on Bartow Road in Bascom.
