‘Old timers’ to play in new gym

More than 40 former Malone Tiger basketball players have signed on to play in Thursday night’s “old timers” basketball game at 6 p.m. in the school’s newly renovated gym.
Many of them will also attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. to officially open the improved gym, where so many of them thrilled the crowds in years past. Some of their old coaches are also slated to attend the game. Malone is a long-time basketball powerhouse, with many players going on to play or coach at the college level and beyond.
For decades, the players had done without air conditioning and other niceties, still managing to claim a multitude of state championships.
Thursday’s game will be the first played since the gym was outfitted with AC and otherwise significantly improved. School officials are hoping many Tiger fans will come out to see what’s been done and watch the game and ceremony.
Admission to the game is $2, with the money going to the Malone Athletic Department. Concessions will also be sold.
