Authorities say a man they chased through the woods and captured Monday night for running a stop sign was driving a stolen motorcycle at the time.
Alford resident Donald Lynch, 32, will be charged with possession of stolen property   because the Yamaha dirt bike he was driving had been stolen in Tallahassee, according to Major Donnie Branch of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Branch said Lynch is also facing numerous traffic violations and other charges related to the chase.
According to Branch, deputies learned during the incident Monday that warrants existed for Lynch’s arrest on several counts for failure to appear in court, after he made bail on a charge of robbery with a deadly weapon and drug charges.
According to Branch, Lynch was accused in the alleged robbery of threatening a woman with a baseball bat during an altercation last December. The argument was about a car, as well as some money Lynch allegedly took from her.
According to Branch, authorities found a meth lab when then went to arrest Lynch on that charge, and drug-related charges were tacked on. He was charged at that time with possession of listed chemicals, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, attempted manufacture of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance.
Lynch made bail after being charged in connection with the robbery and the drug offenses,  but didn’t show up in court on the assigned date, Branch said.
He was captured Monday night after a four and a half-hour chase north of the Cypress community.
It began when a deputy tried to pull him over near U.S. Highway 90 and Dellwood-Cypress Road after he ran a stop sign at U.S. 90 and Church Street on a motorcycle, Branch said.
About two and a half miles into the chase on Dellwood-Cypress, Lynch left the road and drove into a wooded area, where the motorcycle then hit a tree. Lynch fell from the bike on impact, then got up and started running through the woods, Branch said.
Deputies, along with tracking dog teams from Apalachee, Jackson and Calhoun correctional institutions were deployed in the search. Lynch was captured and arrested without further incident in a wooded area around 9:15 p.m., just west of the intersections of Lawrence and Reddoch roads.
Branch said drug paraphernalia was found in a bag on the motorcycle during the incident. Lynch will be charged with possession of drug paraphernalia because of that, Branch said.
Lynch is being held without bond in the Jackson County jail.
