A Marianna man was arrested Saturday on multiple charges after his dispute with a neighbor turned into a scuffle with police, according to Capt. Bill Bryant of the Marianna Police Department.
Louie John Bush Jr., 44, is charged with breach of the peace, three counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, three counts of aggravated assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of resisting arrest with violence, according to the Marianna Police Department.
As of late Monday morning, Bush was being held at the Jackson County jail on a $62,500 bond.
According to Bryant, one officer was initially sent to Bush’s neighborhood on McPherson Street around 2 p.m. Saturday because of a disturbance between Bush and another resident in the neighborhood.
Bryant said Bush was accusing the neighbor of a criminal act against his daughter and was allegedly threatening to kill the neighbor.
When an officer arrived and tried to calm Bush, he allegedly started threatening the policeman. As the officer tried to arrest him, Bryant said, Bush allegedly slammed the policeman against a door and ran into his residence.
Other officers arrived to help, and followed Bush inside. They wrestled with him “all over the house,” according to Bryant.
Bryant said Bush attempted to get a knife out of his pocket at one point in the struggle. Police eventually used pepper spray to help subdue Bush, Bryant said, and he was then taken into custody.
One officer and Bush were both treated for minor injuries in the Jackson Hospital emergency room before Bush was booked into the county jail.
