Investigators with the Jackson County Drug Task Force found themselves in pursuit of a suspect Thursday near Greenwood.
When the vehicle chase was over, law enforcement charged a man who had been arrested just days before for allegedly selling crack cocaine.
According to a news release from the drug task force, the pursuit began Thursday on Prairie View Road near Greenwood. Investigators spotted Michael Fitzgerald Jackson, 31, traveling in a car.
Jackson had been arrested Oct. 24 by the task force on an outstanding warrant for the sale of cocaine, but Jackson posted his $60,000 bond and was released. However, the task force had obtained additional warrants for Jackson on charges of aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling. These charges stemmed from an incident that occurred Oct. 13 on Dickson Road.
According to the news release, officers attempted to stop Jackson’s vehicle Thursday. However, Jackson allegedly fled and led officers on a two-mile pursuit before he pulled into a residence on Dickson Road. He then fled on foot into a wooded area behind the home.
Jackson was apprehended in the woods a short time later.
In addition to the charges on the outstanding warrants, Jackson was charged with five counts of sale of crack cocaine, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, willful and wanton reckless driving, aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement and resisting arrest without violence.
Jackson was booked into the county jail without bond Thursday and awaits his first appearance in court.
