A Florida woman was killed after a one-vehicle accident near the intersection of County Road 109 and McCallister Road, near Southern Junction.
Darlene Prevatt, 53, of Selma Church Road in Graceville, Fla., was the only occupant in the 2000 Kia Sportage when it ran off the road while heading northbound.
Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said Prevatt overcorrected after running off the road, causing the vehicle to spin sideways, then flip. Prevatt was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from her vehicle.
The accident happened around 11 a.m. Friday. Rescue workers performed CPR on the scene and later transported Prevatt to Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Efforts to save Prevatt were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at 11:40 a.m.
Byrd said Prevatt was on her way to pick up a grandchild at the time of the crash.
