Some bad weather may persist in the area most of today, warns Jackson County Emergency Management Director Rodney Andreasen.
He said Monday that stable air to the north and warm, unstable air to the south will be colliding today, and that Jackson County is “right smack in the middle” of the area expected to receive the brunt of it.
The system started developing quickly late Monday, he said.
Strong winds of up to 60 miles per hour and severe thunderstorms are possible before sunrise and into the afternoon. Tornadoes are also possible , as the warm front lifts to meet the cooler air.
Weather officials predict up to three inches of rain associated with the system.
A cold front is also moving in from the west behind the storms, Andreasen said.
While the track of the storm is uncertain and could stay along the coast rather than moe inland, weather officials remain concerned for the Panhandle, the more likely target area.
