Traffic on Lafayette Street in Marianna was slowed Friday afternoon as emergency personnel worked a fire at Dr. John W. Kurpa’s chiropractic neurology office.
Marianna Fire Chief Byron Bennett said no one was injured by the fire, which he suspected was caused by an electrical panel on the back porch of the building.
“That’s what it appears to be at this point, prior to the outcome of an investigation,“ Bennett said on scene.
He said it took about 10 minutes for fire fighters to put the flames out.
“There was fire coming out of the back of the building when we arrived. The majority of the damage is on the back porch and alleyway. There’s also damage in the back room and smoke damage in other rooms,” Bennett said.
Dr. Kurpa declined to comment Friday until more information was available.
After the fire was put out, emergency personnel remained on the scene to regulate traffic as fire crews secured the building.
An official cause of the fire is pending the outcome of an investigation, Bennett said.
