The Florida Highway Patrol has released the names of four people who died in an Oct. 10 traffic crash on Interstate 10 in Jackson County.
Because the residency status of the four men killed has not yet been determined, it took some time for officials to learn their names. Other details remain sketchy — most of their ages and addresses are still unknown.
The dead were listed as driver Pancho M. Lopez, of DeFuniak Springs, and his passengers Ernan D. Jimenez, Domingo D. Gomez and Miguel D. Santiz. Officials report that Santiz was 26.
The men were eastbound on Interstate 10 near the 142 mile-marker when the driver of a westbound pick-up truck entered the roadway from the westbound ramp and lost control of his vehicle.
The truck began rotating counter-clockwise, crossed the median, then entered the eastbound lanes and crashed into the Nissan Sentra driven by Lopez, according to the highway patrol.
The truck, driven by 22-year-old Blountstown resident Zebulon S. Sims, continued spinning after impact and came to rest facing west in the south paved shoulder of the road.
Sims received serious injuries in the crash, but is expected to recover, according to Lt. Jerry Maddux of the Florida Highway Patrol in Marianna.
