The person who robbed a cashier at PeopleSouth Bank in Greenwood Monday was still at large Tuesday. Authorities have now released videotape and still images taken from it, in hopes that someone will recognize the robber and turn the individual in.
The bank was robbed Monday afternoon. Someone at the bank called 911 to report the robbery just after 1:45 p.m.
According to witnesses, a black man entered the bank and handed the teller a plastic bag along with a note instructing her to place the money in the bag. He didn’t produce a weapon, but did threaten to kill everyone if his instructions were not followed, authorities reported.
The robber then left the bank with an undetermined amount of money and ran west across Highway 71. Tracking dogs from Jackson Correctional Institution and Apalachee Correctional Institution responded to the scene, but were unable to establish a track. Checkpoints were established at all routes in and out of town, but the thief was not apprehended.
He is believed to have gotten into an unknown type of vehicle and fled.
The man is further described as approximately 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue pullover shirt with a white long-sleeved shirt underneath, baggy blue shorts and tennis shoes. The subject was also wearing a white ball cap with an unknown insignia. He was wearing sunglasses, and had straight, shoulder-length hair or wig with pink streaks.
Anyone with information on this robbery is asked to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 482-9624, or Jackson County Crimestoppers at (850) 526-5000.
