Mr. and Mrs. William D. (Doug) and Deborah Blackman of Ozark, Ala., announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Lynn Blackman, to Andrew Caleb Sims, son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. (Petey) and Elizabeth Sims Jr. of Marianna.
The bride-to-be is the paternal granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Floyd and Annie Blackman of Dothan, and Mrs. Ada L. Webber of Spartanburg, S.C. She is the maternal granddaughter of Mrs. Marian Phipps and the late David Eugene Phipps of Ozark.
Rachel, a 2008 graduate of George W. Long High School in Skipperville, Ala., is transferring from Brigham Young University to Chipola College this fall, to finish the pre-requisites for a degree in dental hygiene.
The groom is the paternal grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James H. (Pete) and Carolyn Sims Sr. of Marianna. He is the maternal grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. and Mary E. Paulk of Bonifay.
Caleb, a 2006 graduate of Marianna High School, served two years in the Edmonton, Canada Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Upon returning home in November 2008, he enrolled at Chipola College and is pursing a degree in civil engineering.
An open invitation is extended to all family and friends to attend a reception in the couple’s honor, Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3199 Ross Clark Circle, in Dothan. No local invitations will be sent. The reception follows the wedding, which will be Saturday, Aug. 8, at 9 a.m. EDT in the Orlando LDS Temple, Orlando.
