Traffic was stopped briefly on U.S. Highway 231 in Cottondale Thursday afternoon, after a train broke down on the tracks that crossed the highway.
All north and southbound lanes were blocked for about 45 minutes, causing traffic to back up on both sides of the highway.
Authorities detoured traffic to Highway 73 North and U.S. Highway 90 until the train was able to move again.
U.S. 231 runs north and south, bringing travelers directly to locations including Panama City and Dothan, Ala.
