The Jackson County School Board will vote today on a resolution of intent to levy an additional .25 mills in the next fiscal year.
In the recent legislative session, Florida statutes were adjusted to authorize school districts to levy the additional .25 mills for critical capital improvements or critical operating needs.
At today’s 4 p.m school board meeting, at least four of the board members must approve the resolution for it to pass.
Since revenue projections are coming up short, the district’s financial director Terry St. Cyr is proposing the resolution so he will have a better idea of what to account for in his upcoming budget proposal for the next fiscal year.
This special state-authorized .25 mills would be in addition to required local effort and discretionary millage that will be set by the board later in the year.
If the board approves the additional .25 mills, it would bring in about $378,667 in additional revenue, along with a compression adjustment of $655,552, which would be allocated by the Florida Education Finance Program.
