A Blountstown woman was killed and an Altha man seriously injured in a Calhoun County traffic crash late Tuesday afternoon.
According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, 48-year-old Nancy B. Renna died after the Dodge truck she was driving collided with another vehicle on State Road 71 near its intersection with Luke Holland Road in Calhoun County.
According to FHP reports, Renna was southbound on SR71 around 4:45 p.m. when the truck she was driving left the road and entered the west-side ditch. Renna then steered left, over-correcting, and the truck started spinning counter-clockwise, according to reports. As it reentered the highway, the Dodge crossed paths with a northbound Ford truck driven by Bobby C. McDaniel, 43, of Altha.
When the two collided, the cab of the Dodge driven by Renna separated from the body/chassis and came to rest in the east ditch, troopers reported.
The chassis came to rest in the middle of SR 71 and was struck by a third vehicle, a Ford Taurus driven by 42-year-old DeFuniak Springs resident Daryl K. Betts.
The Ford truck driven by McDaniel, meanwhile, had entered the east ditch and then collided with a chain link fence.
Renna was pronounced dead at the scene.
McDaniel was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Betts was not hurt.
There were no passengers in any of the vehicles involved.
Further investigation is pending in the case.
