Greenwood bank robbed

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office begins their investigation following the robbery of the PeopleSouth Bank branch in Greenwood Monday.

PeopleSouth Bank in Greenwood was robbed mid-afternoon Monday by a man wearing pink streaks in his long hair or wig.
He is further described as a black man about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing between 180 to 185 pounds.
The thief entered the bank and presented a note to a cashier, Major Donnie Branch of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said.
The teller placed an undisclosed amount of money in a yellow plastic bag and gave it to the robber.
The robber, who never displaying a weapon, took the cash and his note and ran across the street, then ducked between the Greenwood Supermarket and a closed gas station.
When last seen, he was wearing blue jean shorts and a blue shirt, with a white shirt underneath it.
Authorities called in tracking dogs from Apalachee Correctional Institution and Jackson Correctional Institution to help in the search.
Deputies established temporary checkpoints on roads leading out of Greenwood in all directions, including State Road 71 and Highway 162, but eventually shut those down.
The robber remained at large as of late Monday afternoon. Authorities are asking anyone with information in the case to call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 482-9624, or CrimeStoppers at 526-5000.
