A Grand Ridge teacher faces investigation by the Florida Department of Education’s Bureau of Professional Practices, after the Jackson County School Board confirmed Friday she duct taped a student to a chair.
It is not known exactly when the investigation began. District officials said it was within the past few weeks.
Linda Harris, a sixth grade teacher at Grand Ridge School, duct taped the male student to his chair during class a few weeks ago, according to Deputy Superintendent Larry Moore.
According to Superintendent Lee Miller, who was not in office when the incident occurred, the incident was resolved by the parents and school staff.
School board administration reported Harris to the Bureau of Professional Practices for an investigation, said Miller
Moore said Harris remains employed at Grand Ridge School and has not been suspended.
“It was confirmed that child was out of their seat and the teacher duct taped the child to the seat while he was in his chair,” Miller said. “I assume it was an attempt to keep a child in their seat.”

Jackson county authority figures think they can make up the rule as they go. They punish people regarding status and race. I moved away from Jackson County. My kids are treated like equal. They feel like what they say and do matters in the school. When we moved, the second week of school the principle called me at home to make sure my kids were adjusting. I never felt other than that make kids was just another worm body in Jackson County School system.
I don’t understand how this teacher still has her job. If the school thinks a child is being abused at home, it is investigated and the child possibly taken from the home and there might not have been any abuse. I’m sorry but if that had been one of my children or now one of my grandchildren that teacher would be facing arrest and possible lawsuit. If a parent disciplines their children in public by spanking that child they are in danger of being arrested for abuse. I thank God I don’t have children in the school system but I do have grandchildren there and that teacher would have to go if she were at the school my grandchildren go to. Hopefully the State Board of Education will terminate this person
So far still just complaining and no realistic solutions. Frustration with the school board and vented in different ways. Frustration with students with no respect and vented in different ways. Seems to be a pattern that is hard to break as long as no one has a solution. Come on, what is the solution?
If our ancestors had not stood for our rights, slavery would have not been abolished, women would not have the right to vote and our rights as American citizens could not be expressed as stated in our Nations Bill of Rights.
These matters may seem small regarding the NON-REPORTING /APPROPRIATE ACTIONS on these issues of child abuse, but if parents do not stand up for our children we have dishonored God’s commandments in being parents as well as dishonoring our children.
Jackson County School Board has the answer to everything and makes their rules whenever the benefit is for themselves, employees, friends and even relatives. Child abuse is not different when done by a parent or teachers; there should be NO exception to these rules. Our Principals and School Board members as well need to remember that THEY are not God.

If I had of hit or duct taped one of these teachers children…I would have already been put in RAIFORD Prison and JCSB would be loading the needles!!!
This teacher taught me when I was in school. She is, was, and always will be one of the best teachers I have ever had. She taught the subject in a way that made it easy for me to understand, and she did not keep going if you did not understand and you asked for help. She made every student feel important, not just a chosen few. She liked to play and joke around with her students. Almost everyone that I went to school with loved her because she was not the normal, lecture driven teacher. In my opinion, this sounds like something that we don’t exactly know all about. I do not believe that she would do that to a student for discipline purposes as it has been reported in this paper.
Ok here’s another question on this matter, don’t we have a resource officer? where was he at? busy chatting with the office staff like always? why wasn’t he called to get this student out of the room if the child was disturbing class? Humm there’s something else to ponder EVERY school has an officer in it, why didn’t he take care of this problem instead of the teacher?
My child currently attends Grand Ridge and we have had problems w/ this teacher since day 1. She is out of control. This is also not the only incident and NO the parents were not satisfied with the way it was handled it has just been “hush hush.“ No one wants to see her arrested, what would that really accomplish??? But she definitely should not be allowed to teach and should not be allowed to be around students whatsoever. She was removed from her position as Teacher, but to parents she was portrayed as getting somewhat of a promotion to “math coach.“ They even created a new position for her. Even after this incident she has roamed the halls and intimidated students. She should be suspended pending the investigation. And if nothing is done to her it will definitely make national news.
I went to Grand Ridge High School and let met tell you that I, as a student, would have loved to see some of those nasty little brats duct taped to their seats.
Kids today have no respect for authority even more so than when I was growing up. If your kid acts that way then guess who’s fault it is? YOURS. Because as a parent you did not raise your kids with respect and to keep quiet when you are in a classroom because you are robbing someone else of their education. I say good job teacher and don’t leave those kids alone.
Elektra you are right, our children should be loved and treated with love. They are not just something that happened as a mistake, they are little human beings. They need to be taught all kind of things to be a constructive part of this world and to pass that on to thier children. Respect for authority, laws and other people is one of the characteristics that they need to learn. Integrity is another. Also they need to learn that if they see the system has a problem not to just complain but to have a solution to the system before they complain. If a person does not have a solution then how can that person point a finger at someone else that does not have a solution either? What are some of the constructive solutions you may have for the school board? If they are constructive I’m sure they would love to hear them. That is one way you can help our children. If I happen to come up with a solution that is constructive and realistic I will be glad to share it with the board. By all means stand up for your kids and remember when you stand up for them they (your kids) are watching and learning from you. Do we want our kids to learn to just argue or to argue with a solution available?
I’m stumped to how this all will end, the next generation needs to be a thinking generation not just a dependent generation.
