Busy day for deputies

Reports of an irritated, gun-toting husband, an angry, elderly man wielding a stick, and other types of mayhem kept deputies busy all over the county early Thursday afternoon. Dispatchers sent a steady stream of information to deputies for several hours during the day.
In one of the incidents, a Graceville man was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly threatening his wife with a shotgun.
According to Jackson County Sheriff Lou Roberts, authorities were called to a residence off Lovewood Road south of Graceville around 1:30 p.m., on the report of a disturbance there.
Kayley Cooper reported that her husband, Matt Cooper, and threatened to do her harm with the shotgun before he left the area.
A Chipley police officer pulled Matt Cooper over, based on a description of the vehicle he was driving, and arrested him on behalf of Jackson County.
Cooper, who was being held in the Washington County jail as of early Thursday night, is charged with aggravated assault in the case, according to Roberts.
Around the same time, deputies headed to the Cottondale area, where a tenant-landlord dispute was in progress off U.S. Highway 90.
When a responding deputy arrived, he encountered 75-year-old Vury Alderman. Roberts said Alderman and his landlord were in a dispute about activities related to the property, and Alderman was carrying a large stick.
As the officer came around the corner and ordered Alderman to put the stick down, Alderman refused and became combative, Roberts said.
Alderman is charged with opposing an officer and possible other alleged offenses, Roberts said.
Around the same time, deputies were also called to assist a resident who had injured his leg at his home just outside Marianna, near the Chipola River bridge.
And, there was a wreck on Interstate 10 which at first appeared to be more serious than it turned out to be. Officers went there on reports that a car had been run off the road by another vehicle, but learned on arrival that the driver had simply veered into the median.
